Lance finished 3rd in the Tour de France, a remarkable accomplishment since he retired in 2005 – and broke his collarbone earlier in the year.
Lance is a competitive guy, and he probably relished the chance to get back into competition. But there was another reason. Armstrong’s victories have been seen as tainted. He didn’t get caught for doping, but so many of the men he beat did get caught. How could he be so much better than people who were cheating?
Lance effectively quieted these critics by coming back and re-exposing himself to the endless and technically improved testing procedures used now.
How long can Lance compete at a high level? It will be exciting to find out.
