Literary blurb translation guide

I’m not a book author, but I like the read the blurbs on the back of books and try to guess what they mean or under what conditions they might have been written.  The link above has a handy translation guide.

"luminous prose" = too many goddam words
"a tour-de-force" = threw it across the room
"a triumph" = huge advance

and many, many more. There are also fine ones in the comments, although tending toward ones you wish would be written:
