A few days ago I noted the Public Policy Polling that showed 52% of Mississippi Republicans think Obama is a Muslim. http://mikekr.blogspot.com/2012/03/what-percent-of-mississippi-republicans.html
They repeated the poll before the Illinois primary,
In Illinois only 24% of voters think Obama's a Christian to 39% who think he's a Muslim and 37% who are not sure. But among GOP voters, an Alabamesque 43% think Obama's a Muslim and 18 percent think he's a Christian. [Eric Zorn quoting the study; link to full study is on his page]
Got that? Illinois is a 43% of Republicans compared to 45% in Alabama and 52% in Mississippi. Not a lot of difference considering Obama was elected a senator from Illinois prior to becoming president, so he’s been in the news prominently for years.
On the bright side
On the other hand, one can take some solace in this and note that people who are Muslims, or suspected to be such, can get elected in the US after Sept. 11.
