New Illinois License Plates

Even ignoring this joke plate, Illinois has an extraordinary number of license plates available to those who kick in a few extra bucks -- some 35 specialty plate series beyond the standard one. This includes a special plate for Eagle Scouts, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Education, and the Peoria Wildlife Prairie State Park.

Note I didn't say "35 plates" but 35 series of plates. For example, one of the 35 series is "collegiate series" -- there are 19 colleges and universities with their own special plates.  There are 6 fraternity plates in the "pan-Hellenic series".

The "sporting series" includes plates for various huntable and fishable animals, including the turkey plate, which is a commentary on the Illinois voter.
