This reminds me of the short speech I gave at one of my daughter's wedding. It went roughly like this.
A few minutes ago you exchanged wedding rings. Perfectly round, made of gold, shiny, to symbolize that you are now one and will have many golden moments together from now until your golden years.
But marriage isn't all about those golden moments. In any marriage, there are rough spots and things that need a temporary repair to keep the marriage together. That's where this roll of duck tape comes in (pulled a roll from behind my back and gave it to my son-in-law).
At those moments when things look like they are coming apart, use some metaphorical duck tape to keep them together until time will eventually heal things and bring you back to your inner joy together.
