No Cub faith here yet

> Hey! It's August, and the cubs are still in first place.

History is not friendly:
"In 1969, the Cubs had a substantial lead in the newly created
National League East in August.... At mid-month they led by 8½ games
over the Cardinals and 9½ games over the New York Mets, but they
wilted under pressure, lost key games against the Mets ... and
finished up 8 games out of first..."

Even worse was the Philly Phold of 1964:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_Philadelphia_Phillies_season
"...from a 6½-game lead on the Cincinnati Reds with 12 games
remaining in the season, Philadelphia collapsed in a 10-game losing
streak (the first seven played at home)."

The Cardinals, who had already fired their manager and GM for the
team's poor record, won the pennant and then the World Series.

When I pass by neighborhood markets, I see goat meat featured more often than I did, say, 15 years ago. Perhaps they are being offered up as sacrifices??
