My daughter Abby is visiting this week. She has one more quarter to go and then she graduates. To celebrate this release from college -- and my release from tuition -- we're going on a long bike trip. We may go all the way across the U.S., but the important thing is to have a good time.
This would truly be the trip of a lifetime. Abby gets married in October; family responsibilities will impinge for maybe decades. By the time she's my age, I'll likely be dead (I'd be 97), or at least not in any sort of shape for a cross-country bike trip. When I retire, I may take other bike trips, but I can't take this one any time but now.
I'm excited, if you can't tell.
